Pilates in Aarhus – Strength, Balance & Community
A Brief History of Pilates
Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates during World War I. He attached springs to hospital beds to help non‑ambulatory soldiers move and noticed that patients recovered more quickly. The method combines about 50 simple, repetitive exercises that can be adapted to provide gentle strength work for rehabilitation or a vigorous workout for athletes. Each exercise flows from five essentials – breathing, cervical alignment, rib and scapular stabilisation, pelvic mobility and activation of the deep abdominal muscles.
Benefits of Pilates
Strength & endurance. Pilates increases muscular strength and endurance, particularly through the core.
Flexibility. The controlled, repetitive movements improve flexibility and lumbo‑pelvic stability.
Better posture & balance. Exercises encourage proper alignment and balanced muscle activation.
Adaptability. Pilates can be gentle enough for rehabilitation and challenging enough to satisfy athletes.
Why Choose Sink for Pilates in Aarhus
While there are various Pilates styles in Aarhus, Sink focuses on Reformer Pilates, which uses a specialised machine to add adjustable resistance. Compared with mat Pilates, Reformers allow for customised intensity and greater variety of movements. This makes it easier for beginners to learn correct form and gives experienced movers a deeper challenge. Our classes are deliberately small so that instructors can give you individual attention and help you achieve the best results.
At Sink, we believe Pilates is more than exercise – it’s an opportunity to feel at home in your body and to meet like‑minded people. After class, enjoy specialty coffee and conversation in our upstairs café. We’re located at Bernhardt Jensens Boulevard 71 in Aarhus Ø, a stone’s throw from the canal walks and harbour baths
